Wilson, 67, who was the most senior Catholic cleric in the world to be found guilty of concealing child sexual abuse, was excused from appearing in court during a brief mention on Thursday because he is currently serving his maximum 12-month sentence in home detention.
One of his barristers, Simon Buchen, told Judge Roy Ellis the appeal hearing would take a day if the appellate judge had read the 200-page local court transcript ahead of time, or two days if the judge had not.
Mr Buchen said his client preferred to take the earliest date possible, even if it ultimately meant the hearing was not reached.
Judge Ellis set the appeal hearing down for October 4 and 5 in Newcastle District Court, with a reserve date of November 28.

Wilson was found guilty in May of concealing child sexual abuse between 2004 and 2006 after a landmark eight-day hearing in Newcastle Local Court.
He initially refused to resign from his role as Archbishop of Adelaide, but ultimately bowed to overwhelming public pressure.
