A company called Frank Schoonatra Pty Ltd proposes to convert the former Nautilus gym in Union Street, between King and Union streets, into an eight-room karaoke venue called Jam’s and a vintage clothes shop.
“The proposal is geared towards younger adults and professionals, featuring a trendy atmosphere and private karaoke rooms,” the planning documents say.
The proponent has applied to open the venue until 2am from Wednesday to Saturday and midnight on Sundays.
Meanwhile, 5 Sawyers in Darby Street has applied to the council for a change of use from a restaurant to a bar after being fined $1200 last week.
The Cooks Hill restaurant had only one item on its menu after 9pm, a German-style pretzel with cheese dipping sauce, when Liquor and Gaming NSW inspectors came calling last year.
Licensee Benjamin Dewson pleaded guilty to operating the venue as an unauthorised bar and was ordered to pay the fine and $3500 in legal costs.
