Merewether surfer Jackson Baker moved up 10 places to 54th on the WSL qualifying series with a quarter-final effort in the Galicia Pro in Spain.

Baker progressed through three heats at the 3000-point contest to meet Alejo Muniz. The Brazilian led with a total of 12 from scores of 5.50 and 6.50, leaving Baker needing a 5.74 to go with his 6.27 and take the lead. Baker thought he had earned the score with a last-minute wave but the judges gave him 5.27 for a 11.54 total.
The 1260-point grab was Baker’s second best effort of the year. He won two 1000-point events in NSW to start the year and claimed the 1500-point SA Open of Surfing at Port Elizabeth.
