GOING POP Aussie hip-hop crew The Thundamentals have never been conventional. For their forthcoming fifth album I Love Songs the Blue Mountains boys are hosting a series of free pop-up listening parties, where they will DJ tracks from their new record prior to its release. The Thundas stop at the Cambridge Hotel next Friday at 5.30pm. I Love Songs drops a week later.

NYE PARTY The Glenworth Valley’s Lost Paradise Festival dropped a tasty line-up this week headed by UK artists The Kooks and M.I.A and Australian acts Tash Sultana, Ball Park Music, Pnau, Dune Rats and Vera Blue. Lost Paradise runs from December 28 to 31.
COMING TO TOWN Alt-country has long boasted strong roots in Newcastle so it’s not surprising the Stag and Hunter Hotel has been chosen to launch the Take Me To Town compilation on October 12.
The 47-track alt-country album will be released on September 28 and includes Hunter artists William Crighton, James Thomson & The Strange Pilgrims, Katie Brianna and Ben Leece. The Stag hosts Dan Brodie, The Heartache State, Thomson, Leece and Jen Mize at the launch.
BOOM TIME Newcastle artist Su Morley, aka Steel City Sue, has been selected as a finalist for the ARMAs in the category of best album and best song. The ARMA awards celebrate Australian folk, early blues, alt country, Australiana, Americana and bluegrass music.
Steel City Sue's debut album, Boom Town, was released last month after it was recorded with Mike West in Kansas last year. The winners will be announced at the Nimbin Roots Festival on September 18.
