An art exhibition at the University of Newcastle’s Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses depicts a range of “inspiring” women who have ties to the institution.
Fine arts student Jess Kellar and architect Emma Guthrey created the ‘Queens of UON’ exhibition to celebrate inspiring and successful women from the university.
“Women of Newcastle uni who have achieved great things in research, teaching, sport, community, environmental… all sorts of things,” Ms Kellar said.
“We just wanted to celebrate some of the quiet achievers.”
One of the women featured is former University of Newcastle student, the late Jennifer Bates, who died in 2016 at the age of 36.
Bates was an architect and passionate environmentalist.
The creative duo met with Bates’ mum Kathryn Bennett on Friday to show her the art.
