STEVE Barnett (Short Takes, 19/12) appears unaware electricity generation costs by renewable wind and solar dropped so dramatically over the last three years that most new installations neither receive, or need, subsidies. Nor, I suspect, is he aware the states which installed the most renewable energy capacity from 2016 to 2116 benefited by having the lowest electricity price rises over that same period.

JUST when some sanity is starting to creep back into the housing market, APRA has shown its incompetence and stupidity by lifting the cap on “interest only loans” that the banks had placed on them. The mad boom that engulfed the housing market was orchestrated by the shonky and criminal behavior of banks lending out money to people not in a position to repay, interest only was part of that scenario. Sadly there is no way to stop the hundreds of thousands of people that are going to be hurt and even bankrupted as this bubble deflates, so to make loans more easy to get will be akin to pouring petrol on to a fire.

WHAT a joke the NRL is, they have come up with the Billy rule. The rule was already in place. If you use a shoulder charge you miss a few weeks. Billy Slater should never have been allowed to play in the grand final full stop. It’s all a joke at headquarters, a bit like Canberra me thinks.
