Oxfords had a 1-all draw with Avoca Devils in regulation and extra-time at Newcastle International Hockey Centre on Saturday before taking the shoot-out 3-2.
Brittany Mortimer put Avoca up in the 24th minute and Amy Stewart equalised from a penalty corner in the 33rd. After 10 minutes of extra-time, Parr saved three of five in the shoot-out and Oxfords scored three of four.
Oxfords coach Thea O’Sullivan said “it was exhilarating” to break the drought.
“It had been so long for our club that the emotion at the end of the game was tremendous,” O’Sullivan said.
She said Parr was player of the match and “amazing”.
“She’s been a really important part of our team, but across the park we are very strong and I think what got us there in the end is that we play as a team and the other team probably play as individuals. Just the fact that we work so well as a unit.”
“Jess is core to that and she was a star yesterday, but across the park we are really united.”
Amy Waller and Elizabeth Halliday were survivors or the 2003 Oxfords team who featured on Saturday.
