STEEL Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery celebrates steel in its newest show, opening Saturday, September 29. The gallery presents STEEL: art design architecture, a touring exhibition from the JamFactory in Adelaide that explores new ways steel is used by artists, designers and architects in Australia. Among the items are fine handcrafted jewellery by Sabine Pagan, sleek wobble pots by Alison Jackson and a stunning espresso machine by Craig Hiron.

GALLERY 139 Anh Wells Gallery 139 is on the move. The gallery on Beaumont Street will be open for its last day of on Monday, December 24, including Christmas eve drinks from 2-4pm, before moving to new premises. Prior to the move Wells will have shows featuring Peter Lankas, Paul Maher and Dino Consalvo, then her annual Director's Choice exhibition and finishing the year with the first Newcastle Printmakers Workshop exhibition Dec 13-24.

TIPPING POINT Former University of Newcastle lecturer Richard Tipping (pictured) has a survey show of his thought-provoking signs and designs at Latrobe Regional Gallery in Victoria, through October 21. The show includes a pictorial representation of Hear the Art (Lake Macquarie), a permanent installation on the lawns of Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery.
