A 10-month-old baby was one of three people travelling in a vehicle that flipped onto its roof in a collision at Fern Bay on Wednesday.
Police said the collision occurred at about 12.55pm on Nelson Bay Road.
A 41-year-old female driver of a northbound vehicle was attempting a u-turn on Nelson Bay Road when her Volkswagen Tiguan was struck by a southbound vehicle.
The Tiguan was flipped onto its roof and both the female driver and her male passenger suffered minor injuries.
A 10-month-old baby who was travelling in the car was unharmed, but the female driver was taken to John Hunter Hospital.
A 19-year-old Newcastle woman and a male passenger in the southbound vehicle were uninjured.
Police inquires are continuing.
