BRETT David Hill – the man accused of abducting and sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl at Adamstown Heights in June – has changed legal representatives, a court has heard.
Mr Hill, 47, believed to be currently housed in a protective custody wing of a Sydney jail, did not appear in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
He has been charged with kidnapping, six counts of aggravated sexual assault and four counts of aggravated indecent assault in relation to the abduction of an 11-year-old girl who was walking through Hudson Park about 9.15am on June 12.
Solicitor Adrian Kiely, who had represented Mr Hill since not long after he was arrested and charged, mentioned the matter briefly on Wednesday to withdraw.
“I’m no longer in that matter,” Mr Kiely said. “Can I seek Your Honour’s leave to withdraw. “I was advised by Mr Hill that he has a Sydney solicitor acting for him.”
Later, a Legal Aid solicitor told the court she had spoken to Mr Hill, who had engaged the services of Sydney solicitor Ross Hill. The matter was adjourned to November 7.
