CHARLESTOWN’S first grade hat-tricks may have occurred 45 years apart, but they produce a mirror image of sorts.
Edwards nabbed the last three wickets of Stockton’s innings on September 29 while it was discovered this week, after Magpies officials delved into the record books, that Littlewood took the first three wickets of the innings against Southern Lakes.
Littlewood ended up with figures of 4-0 from that opening over, removing another batsman with his final ball.
Surprisingly, despite being in early trouble Southern Lakes recovered to beat Charlestown on that occasion. In the more recent fixture the Magpies managed to account for Stockton.

* LITTLEWOOD’S son Mark, former Newcastle representative skipper who isn’t playing for Belmont this summer, has been listed to coach new Regional Bash side the Lake Mac Attack along with Cricket NSW development officer Tim Cox.
Double headers this Sunday, also featuring the Hunter Hitmen and Central Coast Rush, are in doubt with wet weather despite covers already being put down at Waratah and Harker ovals.
* WALLSEND will have Chris Heighington and another mystery Knights guest at their sportsman’s lunch Friday week (October 19).
The Tigers event takes place at Wallsend Diggers from midday.
* BELMONT will hold a players meeting at Cahill Oval on Thursday night.
* NEWCASTLE’S Sam Bates was one of 14 players named on Wednesday in the Australia A women’s squad to tour India this month.
She will play six matches, split evenly between one-dayers and T20s, against India A in Mumbai from October 15 to October 26.
* JASON Sangha scored 48 for ACT-NSW Country on day two of their Futures League encounter against Queensland in Canberra on Wednesday. The hosts were well on top, leading by 464 runs after the first innings, as play continued on Thursday.
This follows an unbeaten 67 to help Randwick-Pethersham save a rain-affected draw against University of NSW in the Sydney first grade competition on Saturday. The 19-year-old took 3-43 with his leg-spinners the weekend before.
