Photographer Marina Neil collected the Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing award at The Australian Museum in Sydney on Monday evening, for her work capturing Senior Citizens’ Week activities at Cessnock.
The images depict seniors participating in walking basketball – a modified version of the traditional game that aims at inclusivity.
In news today October 15, 2018:
“It was pretty unusual – going to the job, I didn’t really know what I was walking into,” Neil said.
“It was a very competitive game. There was lots of pushing, shoving and a lot of elbows and walking that more resembled running. It was certainly a fun thing to shoot.”
The Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing is a 10-person committee that advises NSW Minister for Ageing Tanya Davies on matters that affect the state’s senior population.
