His dad was on the coaching staff until mid-way through last season but that has had no influence on the Knights’ decision to sign Zac Woolford, the son of former Canberra Raiders and Dragons captain Simon Woolford.

The 22-year-old hooker, who came through the Raiders junior ranks before playing at the Bulldogs for the past two seasons, has linked with Newcastle on a one-year deal.
He is yet to play in the NRL but led the Dogs to last season’s NSW Cup title, with an early-season broken jaw not helping his chances of breaking into the top grade for the first time.
“He’s done a good apprenticeship at the Raiders and the Bulldogs and is unlucky not to have debuted already,” Knights recruitment official Troy Pezet said.
“He’s a real competitor who trains really hard and he’s going to get his opportunities as part of our top 30.
“Nathan [coach Brown] has spoken to him and told him he will be given every chance.”
