She said dresses this year would be a mix of styles, such as mini length and featuring ruffles along the hemline or off the shoulder; sleek and fitted with bold colours including blue, green and red; or relaxed with shin-length asymmetrical hemlines.

She said pastel pantsuits were also popular.

“Race style is very different to typical event wear or party season – it’s not what we’d usually wear day to day.”

Ms Kohler said fascinators had made way for heavily jewelled crowns – often in yellow gold – and silk scarves tied around low ponytails, buns or hats, or twisted into headbands.

She said block heels – increasingly in perspex – were comfortable, stylish and could be worn without an ankle strap, such as on mules, to elongate legs.

She said men could be expected to add waistcoats to their suits, in blues and checks, or mix their jacket with a bold shirt and either white or sand chinos.
