Just after 10am emergency services were called to the intersection of Tudor Street and Parkway Avenue, Hamilton.
A scooter and car had collided, knocking the rider into the street.
Paramedics attended and treated a 50-year-old male rider at the scene before he was transported to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
He suffered lacerations and suspected broken ankles in the crash.
Police remained on scene and Parkway Avenue has been cordoned off.
