They have a passion for restoring properties to their former glory while also breathing new life into them.
A century-old three-bedroom home on a corner block at 79 Henry Street in Tighes Hill caught their eyes four years ago and, after purchasing it at auction, they undertook “a labour of love”.
“I could see how wonderful it was behind all of the old 70s wooden panelling and all of the hairy, shaggy carpet,” Rebecca, a building designer, said.
“I could see there was beautiful pressed metal ceilings. There were dado boards around the hall and I thought, ‘This is the one I want’.”

The building report revealed the home, built in 1914 and with only two previous owners, was “as sound as anything”.
“These old homes are built out of hardwood and they’re built to last,” Rebecca said.
“All we had to do was really strip back all of the 1970s type additions and it was there.”

They kept beautiful brickwork in fireplaces exposed and recycled and refitted original features. An enclosed sunroom became an ensuite for the master bedroom and the original kitchen a fourth bedroom. A Caesarstone kitchen was added with glass stacker doors to outdoor entertaining.
Dotcom Property Sales’ Dave Lane is selling the home, which is open for inspection at midday on Saturday.
