The recently turned 19-year-old, who previously played at both Wallsend and Southern Lakes, reached the three-figure mark just after midday on Tuesday against Tasmania at the SCG.
Sangha raised his bat after 161 balls. He glided a delivery down to third man from off-spinner Beau Webster. The shot pulled up just before the boundary but Sangha and Blues teammate Steve O’Keefe crossed for three runs.
This followed shortly after a maiden ton to Australian under-19 teammate Jack Edwards, who was dismissed for 101.
The teenage pair had compiled a 180-run partnership for the sixth wicket, taking the NSW total from 5-181 to 6-361 on day two of the four-day encounter.
“An absolute thrill to watch @edwards_jackk and @JasonSangha3 make their maiden #SheffieldShield centuries for @CricketNSWBlues within minutes of each other. Well done gents - you should be so proud of yourselves. First two of many!” Cricket NSW chief executive officer Andrew Jones posted on social media following the milestones.
Australian women’s wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy agreed: “Edwards and Sangha.... two exciting names to keep an eye on! Great for the future (and present) of @CricketNSWBlues. Congrats boys!”
Australian chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns was amongst the crowd while Test captain Tim Paine was wicketkeeping for opponents Tasmania.
The Blues are 6-386 at lunch with Sangha unbeaten on 106.
This is Sangha’s third Sheffield Shield match for NSW after debuting for the senior state side last month.
He scored 12 and 33 in his first game against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval before being dismissed for a pair against Victoria at the MCG.
