He has been named a joint winner of Newcastle Permanent Primary School Mathematics Competition’s year six division, alongside Newcastle Grammar’s Nidhish Bobby Kannan and Gosford Public’s Eric Hwang.
“I was relieved,” Joseph said.
“Last year Eric and I won the year five category and I said ‘We will win it again’ and now we have. I put in a lot of effort on the day.
“There’s no other subject for me – I like solving problems, it gives me satisfaction.”
Nidhish said he felt “great” to have jumped from third place in 2017 to first place.
“I worked harder this year because I really wanted to come first.”
New Lambton Public’s Julian Thomas and Isobelle Kay were first and third in the year five division.
