POLICE have charged a man after a serious assault which ended with a knockout blow outside a shopping centre at Gosford.

About 8pm on Tuesday a 57-year-old man and a 20-year-old man had a verbal exchange inside a shopping centre on Erina Street.
A short time later, when the two men had left the shopping centre, they became involved in a physical altercation.
The younger man allegedly assaulted the older man after which he collapsed hitting his head on the footpath and was knocked unconscious.
Witnesses detained the 20 year old until officers from Brisbane Water Police District arrived. The injured man was treated at the scene and conveyed to Gosford Hospital, before he was transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
A crime scene was established and the younger man was arrested and later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and recklessly cause grievous bodily harm.
The man was bail refused to appear at Gosford Local Court on Wednesday.
