A HAMILTON SOUTH man has been the victim of a frightening robbery in the middle of the night.
About 1am Thursday a resident of a unit block in Fowler Street heard a knock at the front door.
The 55-year-old man answered the door to find a person holding a knife.
The male offender stormed into the unit and assaulted the resident several times, knocking him to the ground.
The intruder used the knife to threaten the resident and demanded cash. He was directed to a small amount of money in a nearby backpack, which he grabbed and fled from the scene.
The male victim gave chase but was unable to catch the offender. He sought safety in a nearby friend’s home before calling triple-0.
Police attended, established a crime scene and forensically examined the unit.
Inquiries are continuing and police have called for anyone with further information, or anyone who saw a man with a backpack in the area about 1am, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
