Callaghan heads to Menangle Park with Power Surge and Lovin Miss Daisy on Saturday night.
Power Surge appears his best chance after drawing four in the Ladyship Pace (1609m). Lovin Miss Daisy was second last week at Menangle but will start from eight in the 2300m M1 race.
Five-year-old Power Surge has won seven times in 15 starts for Callaghan, who was keen to give her a rest after Saturday’s night race where Mat Rue will take the reins.
“She’s drawn well but it’s not an easy race,” Callaghan said. “But she’s in good form and she’ll run well. She’s done a great job since she’s been here and I might give her a little break after tomorrow night and hopefully she improves after that and gets to some of the better mares races later on. To see if she can take that next step.”
He said Power Surge would target mares features in January and February to test the waters.
“I’m not sure she will be right up to them now but hopefully she keeps improving, works through the grades and we might be able to have a crack at them next season,” he said.
Callaghan will drive Lovin Miss Daisy.
“She went really good last week,” he said.
“There’s a bit of a question mark over the 2300 with her but we’ll give her another try and see how she goes. She’s hasn’t drawn well again but we’ll drive her quiet and see if we can get her to hit the line like she did last time.”
“If she goes like she did last week I’m sure she’ll be in the finish somewhere.”
High Line
She’s been reasonably consistent and just led them up and went good,
