Windred (71,68,69) was solid without getting hot in the third round on Saturday, signing off on a 69 to moved to eight under and a tie for 20th.
He is 12 shots behind runaway leader Jake McLeod, who carded an incredible 62 on Saturday, and four adrift of Victorian amateur Blake Collyer.
Collyer, a Victorian representative, reeled of a third straight 68 to be at 12 under.
Windred, who finished fourth at Twin Creeks last year, went even for the front nine before draining three birdies on the way home.
Aberdeen-born Dylan Perry (69,70,68), playing his first tournament as a professional, is the leading Hunter player in a tie for 17th at nine under.
An Australian amateur representative, Perry turned one-over before going on a birdie blitz down the back with five.
Nathan Green (69,70,73) couldn’t get his game going on Saturday, carding a one-over 73 to be at four under and out of contention.
Jake Higginbottom (67,74,72), equal second after the first round, had three birdies and three bogeys to stay at three under.
Leigh McKechnie (69,74,72) also went even for the card on Saturday to be at one under.
