The Newcastle Herald understands there have been initial discussions on possible alternatives to leaving the light rail tracks exposed, but a final decision has yet to be made. The light rail tracks and race circuit cross paths at the intersection of Watt and Scott streets.
“The tracks were inspected by the engineers prior to the weekend, along with the entire circuit as the build reaches its final stages,” Supercars said in a statement.
“The light rail is not envisaged to cause any problems.”
The light rail tracks were not down 12 months ago for the inaugural Newcastle 500.
The 2018 event, featuring Supercars and four support classes, starts on Friday and finishes on Sunday.
