HEALTH Minister Brad Hazzard has been asked to intervene over staffing levels at John Hunter Hospital.
Wallsend MP Sonia Hornery raised concerns in Parliament on Thursday about NSW Nurses and Midwives Association (NSWNMA) reports that patients at the hospital have missed out on thousands of hours of nursing care due to understaffing.
The NSWNMA has been campaigning for one nurse to three patients in emergency departments, paediatric wards and critical care units and a minimum of one to four in rural and regional hospital wards.
She said nurses were burning out.
“Many are leaving because the work has become too stressful and they are not getting enough support.
“Enough is enough. The Health Minister needs to step in.”
