I am excited to be involved in another Beyond Zero Emissions book launch and seminar showing us the way forward to bring our carbon emissions to zero in 10 years using current technologies. BZE a Melbourne-based, independent climate change solutions think tank was voted Best International Energy and Environment Think Tank 2018, by UK’s Prospect magazine. Over the past several years, BZE has led the way with detailed scientifically based plans that show how we could move to zero carbon cement, communities, stationary energy, agriculture, forestry, vehicles and buildings. This volunteer-based organisation is showing the leadership needed to bring Australia to a more profitable and socially responsible economy in an effort to limit the damage to the world we are leaving for our children and grandchildren to repair.

We live with governments that think in the short term and do not plan for the long term. Take our dependence on imported oil for our vehicle transport, and yet it would be so easy to move to electric transport and move to renewable electricity generation. A win-win as we would ensure our national security in the face of an oil embargo, and develop new export inventions in the renewables space for the world to buy. The BZE Electric Vehicles Report of 2016 shows how “Australia can move to electric vehicles, powered entirely by renewable electricity, in a decade. It is feasible and affordable, providing environmental, health and economic benefits.”
The half-day morning seminar at Hamilton TAFE on November 29 will launch the book Electrifying Industry and will provide a forum to learn how costs can be lowered in the metals, plastic, glass, food, drink and ceramics industries, especially for manufacturing and fabrication. It will also show how to switch from gas to renewable electricity, with obvious benefits of reducing the energy involved, stopping the rising costs of gas, and reducing the network costs of electricity. The Australian Institute of Energy is supporting the seminar and members of Engineers Australia are eligible for CPD points for attendance.
Come along and add your voice to a long-term plan for the country.
