Precision Taxation Accounting & Management (PTAM)  is the Building and Construction Industry ‘accountants of choice’ for Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.

Established in January 2014, the firm achieved great success this year, being named Business of the Year at the 2018 Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards.

It also took out the Excellence in Digital Technology award while Chief Operations Officer, Kelly Eke,  won the Excellence in Customer Service by an Individual.

Success for the Warners Bay-based business has been built on two platforms, according to  Principal Peter McCarthy: a no-nonsense approach to helping small business owners and individuals reach their financial goals, and a holistic focus on providing employees with  a safe, happy, healthy, engaging work environment.

“We have  a strong commitment to workplace health and safety,” Mr McCarthy explains. “I see the commitment to creating systems designed to ensure compliance around areas of Work, Health and Safety not as simply something I need to do to tick the box.

“I see this as an opportunity to create a better business for my staff, my clients and for anyone who deals with Precision.”

Award-winning Chief Operations Officer  Kelly Eke  has leveraged the firm's corporate culture to design a program called “CARE With Precision”.

This program encompasses areas of safe work practices, healthy living at work and mental health.

“We spend so many hours at work it is important to reduce Workplace Environment Stress as much as possible,” Ms Elke said.

“In the accounting industry we have very demanding deadlines with government agencies such as the ATO or ASIC, for instance, on top of that working closely with our small business clients and advising on issues that they are facing in their respective industries can be very overwhelming on a daily basis.

“Developing and Implementing our workplace wellness program called CARE With Precision has brought an awareness to not only issues that are vital for us in the workplace but also our health and safety in general.”

The team's commitment to workplace health and safety and the creation of its CARE With Precision program led to PTAM being invited by Hunter-based institute  Everymind to present at a Small Business round table in Parliament House, chaired by the Minister for Small and Family Business, Skills and Vocational Education – Senator Michaelia Cash, earlier this month.

“With many of our clients operating in high-risk industries like building and construction, I feel we have a responsibility to share with our clients what we have learned in this space,” Mr McCarthy said.
