I'M sure that the wonderful result of Ash Barty winning the French Open will be applauded world-wide. She is a delight to Australia. It is a pity that those two talented male Australian players can't get their act together and grow up.

WHERE are you Bill Slicer? Your silence is deafening. Go the Knights!

WHEN our leading politicians go into our troops' camp overseas and get into photo shoots, patting them on the back, telling them what a good job they are doing .. there's something they don't say. What they don't say is 'don't come home wounded or mentally scarred because you will not get the support you need'. This is a disgrace and this government needs to fix it.
Andy McFadden, Warners Bay
IF you are one of the "thinking people", being a bit concerned about the latest attacks on the media, you have every right to be worried. This government has history and form on concealing and covering up things the public has a right to know or might be an embarrassment to them, dating back to the Howard years where "on water" matters were falsely claimed as secret to the eventual act of committing the country to a trumped-up war based on lies and deceit. After six years of stagnation and sliding backwards, this government has got to be called to account before it does anymore damage to Australia and its people.

SCOTT Hillard complains of "$455 fines for touching your phone, even if off the road, in park, with the handbrake on". I suspect he'll find that most mobile phones don't come with automatic gearboxes and many don't have a handbrake.

INTERESTING letter from John Buckley re the $1080 taxpayers would receive (Letters 7/6, Intent, not commitment). 1080, is that not a poison? Are we slowly being poisoned by our politicians' promises?

ANOTHER DA, another set of glossy pictures to go in the drawer with the proposed Charlestown Swim Centre upgrade and the Belmont Sports Precinct. From a ratepayer perspective it would be a real watershed moment when one of these projects actually commenced construction. Most people understand the intricacies of these projects. But most of us are sick of the nice pictures.

WE are searching for surviving family members of Alan and Janet Coulthard, whose last known location was the New Lambton area. Family in the United Kingdom are keen to establish contact after so many years and to see if it's possible for updates on both families, following the deaths of Ceridwen Dry and Jeffery Dry. If anyone knows of any Coulthard family members, please contact myself by email for further discussion. Email address: tonydry54@live.co.uk
