Storms hit New Year’s Eve celebrations across the Hunter on Monday night but the region’s revellers did their best to still enjoy the food and entertainment to see out 2018.
Newcastle Foreshore hosted the region’s largest event with thousands lining the edge of the harbour from early evening in preparation for the 9pm fireworks.
Food stalls, fun-zones, live music and a silent disco kept revellers busy before rain moved across the city and delayed the fireworks display.
It was a similar scene at Maitland with families lining the Hunter River before thunderstorms forced the council to cancel the event and planned set of 9pm fireworks.
Displays at Pokolbin and Nelson Bay went ahead, however Newcastle City Council was forced to wait until 10pm before giving its display the red light.
