A former NSW Port Authority executive manager will take the helm of the Hunter Joint Organisation of Councils after unanimous endorsement from the board in December 2018.

Joe James, who spent 15 years in the legal sector for state agencies and worked as the executive manager for bays development, and of commercial, technical and legal at Port Authority NSW, will commence work as CEO of the joint organisation on January 21.
“I am thankful for the warm welcome I have received from members of the Board and I look forward to meeting all Councillors and staff of the Hunter councils and of course their communities,” Mr James said.
“I am very excited about what the future will bring in working together in the interests of the region and to also work closely with State agencies to advance the interests of the Hunter region.”
Hunter joint organisation chair, and Cessnock Council Mayor Bob Pynsent said Mr James was a standout amid a high class of candidates.
“Joe impressed the Board with his proven advocacy skills, his commercial focus, collaborative leadership style, and his obvious project and asset management experience,” Cr Pynsent said.
Cr Pynsent thanked the former Chief Executive Officer Roger Stephan for his leadership and dedication for more than a decade.
“Roger has been with Hunter Councils since 2008 and has been extremely successful in building on existing business and generating new business opportunities.”
Mr James’ pas roles include general counsel for the Sydney Ports Corporation, legal counsel for Arana Therapeutics Limited and as a solicitor for Deacons and PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal.
