I THINK Mr Borsak and Mr Brown (‘Delay in the firing line’, Newcastle Herald 2/2) should change the name of their organisation from "The Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party" to the "Foot Shooters Party".

THE banks have been found guilty, but for the royal commission to have any real value, the guilty need to be locked up. Strip them of their flash cars and big mansions the same as they do with drug dealers and set an example that cannot and should not be ignored. At the end of the day, these people are criminals and should treated the same.

SORRY to disappoint Clive Jensen (Short Takes 4/2), but Governor General Peter Cosgrove is not Australia's head of state. The (non-resident) head of state is the Queen. The GG is her viceroy and as such fulfils many of her roles instead as her representative. Monarchists love to promote the nonsense that the Queen is the sovereign and the GG is head of state. In fact the monarch is both sovereign and head of state until we (inevitably) change them system.

A FULL front-page headline on John Church (‘Swear blind’, Herald 5/2) because someone called him a f...wit! I believe if he was a team player and stopped making out to be an ethical warrior because he didn't want to stay up at the Bay, the childish comment probably wouldn't have been made.
Steve Paras, Pelican
SO the decision of the council not to pursue allegations put forward and quoting costs (‘Swear blind’, Herald 5/2) simply highlights how things have become. Either we put these issues to the test no matter what it costs or we don’t do anything for anybody. It doesn’t matter whether it is a grown man or a schoolchild. The same should apply to sexual harassment. People tend to have a bit of a giggle if an adult man was harassed by a male or female workmate and calls it out. Men, after all, should supposedly be able to look after themselves. Well worth a thought. Cost should simply not be a consideration.

ONCE again Jets members are being kicked out of their usual seats, this time to make way for Mr McKinna’s 500 club (‘Jets target 500 club for tilt at Asian champion’s league’, 9/11/18) for the upcoming Asian Champions League games. I won't be attending any ACL games at all because of this decision, and I hope other members think about whether the club shows the same loyalty to them, that they show to the club.

THE light rail will be running soon, but most of the people in the Hunter would rather have stayed on the train. Save Our Rail had thousands of people saying that, and all that money could have fixed Stockton’s break wall. Think about what Newcastle wants before you waste more money.
