The Organic Grocer and Café was inspired after the duo began eating organic to improve the health of their family, with fantastic results.
Seeing a need for locally supplied fresh, organic produce, the pair opened the doors of their store in March 2013, with a focus on providing certified, organic Australian products.
Setting up shop in the iconic Hanleys building on Glebe Road was no easy task, but the pair were determined to respect the heritage of the derelict site and with some careful renovation, gave life to a new retail space.
Recognised today for it’s colourful Date Street mural, (an outcome of winning a Newcastle City Council Pride of Place $5000 grant to beautify Adamstown), the business prides itself of supporting local talent.
The mural was designed by Jessica Coughlan and painted by Elizar Mytka,
In fact the Café counter is also a creation of celebrated local artists created by The Strutt Sisters; Catherine and Jennifer Strutt.
