Police arrested a 39-year-old man at Merewether and a 46-year-old woman in Newcastle this week.
Both were charged with robbery in company over an April 2018 incident in which they allegedly attacked a cab driver after he picked them up on Glebe Road about 2.20am on April 1.
The 38-year-old cab driver and the passengers began arguing during the trip before the driver asked the pair to get out of the car.
The male passenger allegedly took cash from the driver and fled, prompting the driver to try to chase him.
Police will allege the woman got out and struck the driver to the face, arm, and chest with a shoe before the man returned and punched him in the face.
Both will face court later this year.
