A KAHIBAH man is off to court after allegedly targeting a police helicopter with a laser.

On February 6 the police aviation support branch was assisting local officers on an operation, when at 10.30pm PolAor8 was repeatedly targeted with a laser pointer.
Crew on the aircraft were able to guide police to the source of the laser and officers were led to a 32-year-old man in Hexham Street, Kahibah.
Police seized a hand-held laser device which exceeded the power output that is lawful to possess.

The man will be issued a court attendance notice and will face charges for possess prohibited weapon and prejudicing the safe operation of an aircraft.
Police have reminded the public that laser pointers with a power output of more than one milliwatt are unlawful to possess under the Weapons Prohibition Act 1988.
In addition the pointing of any laser at aircraft poses significant risk and can blind or disorientate pilots.
