The statewide ban, which began at midnight, comes as temperatures across NSW are expected to range from the mid-30s to low-40s with the hot weather accompanied by high winds.
In Newcastle, Wallsend, Maitland and Toronto the mercury is expected to reach 39 degrees Celsius. Further inland, locations such as Singleton could reach 40 degrees on Tuesday.
The Hunter Valley will face extreme fire danger, while the rest of NSW is set to experience severe to high fire danger.
The NSW Rural Fire Service advises residents to:
- Action their Bushfire Survival Plan now.
- Monitor the fire and weather situation through your local media, www.rfs.nsw.gov.au and www.bom.gov.au.
- Call Triple-0 in an emergency.
The Rural Fire Service advises that and residents in an area of Severe Fire Danger should:
- Finalise options if they plan to leave and be sure to leave early on the day
- Only stay if their home is well prepared and they can actively defend it
- Prepare for the emotional, mental and physical impact of defending a property - if in doubt, leave.
