SORRY Andrew (Short Takes, 14/6), but all I heard before the election was Mr Morrison telling us all how good our economy was due to him and his government. Two weeks later, after they won, we are told our economy isn't anywhere near as good as he kept telling us. I guess this was because of all the things you mentioned, not their running of the country.

ONE thing was pretty obvious watching Friday's memorial service to Bob Hawke - what a truly great and progressive country Australia would be if we only elected Labor governments, and weren't hamstrung by the regressive small-minded, non-aspiration governments of Howard, Abbott, Turnbull and now Morrison.

CONTRIBUTORS writing about "freedom of speech" should stop twisting facts to suit their stories. Israel Folau's sacking had nothing to do with freedom of speech. He broke a signed contract. You can't do that. The journalists being investigated by the AFP leaked classified security information damaging to Australia. You can't do that. People need to realise that freedom of speech is not an "absolute". You can't just yell out "fire" in a crowded picture theatre.

PETER, we have men and women experts on breast and cervical cancers as well as men and women experts on prostate cancers (Short Takes, 12/6). But no one is anti any of these horrible problems, but we do have anti and pro supporters of abortions. That's why I think instead of quoting polls on these subjects (we all know how reliable polls are) we should not make it a controversial topic for the women involved.

PETER Gleeson (Short Takes, 14/6), workplace health and safety is the responsibility of the employer. If they did their most important job properly why would anyone else, union or otherwise, need to force them to? Seems it's the employers who are sitting on their backsides, or is that their wallets.

GREAT column by Jeff Corbett ('Humour's a funny thing', Newcastle Herald, 15/6). Jeff points out several comedians like Rodney Rude and others rely on profanity to get laughs. The juvenile antics of the Goons and the boring, unfunny Ricky Gervais' The Office, like Jeff, also leaves me unamused. Three different styles of humour, each one famous, are my favourites - Paul Hogan, Barry Humphries and Robin Williams.

SO how much money did you throw away of taxpayers on the lies you said about Manus and Nauru? Not one person turned up for the election lies you told and how much? Peter Dutton please explain the $150 million and why you are bringing in criminals as refugees.
