PETER Dolan (Short Takes, 19/6), you and others keep missing the point. Israel Folau's sacking had nothing to do with his religion or his beliefs. His sacking had nothing to do with quotes from the Bible either. Does nobody out there see my point? He broke a contract he made with Rugby Australia in regards to his use of social media. He agreed to and signed this contract. No matter what conditions were laid out in his contract, he agreed to them and signed it. Any court in the land would find in favour of any person discriminated against on the basis of their religion. He wasn't. Stop fixating on separate issues (on which I agree with you by the way). He broke a legal contract. It's all about the contract. End of story.

LAKE Macquarie City Council seems hell bent on a speculative, high rise development on the foreshore at Bath Street, Toronto. Surely this council is aware of the huge oversupply of apartments statewide, and the very slow uptake of current apartment offerings in Toronto? As ratepayers we expect prudent financial management by our local council in all of its undertakings. Council should have the good sense to admit that speculating/gambling (with other people's money) is not the right of any local government. Stop planning this unwanted, unjustifiable misuse of our money right now.

I BEG to differ Brad Hill (Short Takes, 20/6), customers use self serve registers because they mostly have no other choice. High paid company executives make decisions that affect low paid workers at the coal face, resulting in insufficient staffing and loss of hours for the most vulnerable. To suggest it is my fault for using self serve is crap. By the way, which other retailer is treating long and short term employees like collateral damage in their efforts to save money by restructure and forcing staff to reapply for their positions at a lesser wage? The average person would be outraged.

JUST wondering when unions have ever been in charge of the country, Tony Cooper (Short Takes, 19/6)? Surely not another cliched scare tactic from the conservatives? OK, I'll keep voting LNP forever.

I'VE just been reading the report about the mural painted on the fence on Stockland Drive ('$265k to replace pink wall', Newcastle Herald, 20/6). I have to say I agree with Councillor Baker, it is (in my opinion) an eyesore. I know if that had been painted on my fence I would be very upset. I think Councillor Baker is correct in thinking a proper survey would reveal that it was unwanted by residents.

GRANT Conway (Short Takes, 18/6), pregnancy is not cancer, and while it can be a 'horrible problem' as you imply, it is not a sickness or disease of any kind, which is why abortion is always controversial. Election polls getting it wrong do not make my abortion poll unreliable. If all polls are unreliable, why do abortion (and euthanasia) supporters also like to cite them?
