The Sandy Hollow-Gulgong rail line is expected reopen on Tuesday night, almost a week after a coal train derailed in the Upper Hunter on route to Newcastle.

Australian Rail Track Corporation said major repair work to about 1.7km of the line at Baerami, west of Denman, was almost complete and it expected to finalise repairs on Tuesday.
“Repair and restoration work is almost complete,” an spokesperson said.
“Subject to the final works progressing as planned this afternoon, resumption of services is scheduled for this evening.”
Workers replaced sleepers and rail as part of the repairs and made improvements to a level crossing at Rosemount Road, Denman.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating why the Pacific National coal train derailed in the early hours of Tuesday, February 5.
No one was injured in the incident but six laden wagons came off the tracks.
The line, which is used to haul coal from mines near Mudgee to the Port of Newcastle, has been closed for close to a week.
