Village living offers great life balance

Judy Malone moved into Jenny MacLeod Retirement Village at Wallsend 11 years ago and hasn’t looked back.

Village living makes it easy for her to go on holiday knowing her home will be looked after.  When Judy got back from her big overseas trip to England and parts of Europe she found her unit safe and sound - as she had left it, and with neighbours keen to hear all about her overseas adventures.

"A benefit of village living is that there’s security in knowing your neighbours who look out for you," Judy said.  "They are also great at lending a hand when needed and the village staff are always there to help you."

Judy enjoys the feeling of freedom and independence that comes with community living. There’s no grounds to maintain or lawns to mow and she can focus on the things she loves doing.

"Residents organise their own activities in the community hall – singing, music, wine tasting, rummy cup, exercises classes, crafts, happy hour and more," Judy said.  "There is a village bus for outings and shopping within the broader community.   It’s a great place to socialise."

At Jenny MacLeod Retirement Village, there’s a great mix of refurbished units with different designs.  They have open plan living, practical kitchens and come with a garage or car space and an emergency call system for help if you need it.

There are also serviced apartments on site for residents that prefer a little extra assistance with daily living.  The services include prepared meals, organised social activities, cleaning, laundry plus there’s a registered nurse to assist with medical and healthcare requirements.  If residents find that their needs increase, they can move into a serviced apartment and stay in the same familiar environment, close to friends.

Jenny MacLeod Retirement Village is conveniently located at 48 Victory Parade, Wallsend within walking distance to the Jesmond Shopping Centre and Jesmond Park.  The John Hunter Hospital is approximately 6km away and there are bus services from the front of the village to Newcastle City.
