Timothy James Onslow, 25, of Triumph Way, Hamilton South, has been charged with kidnapping, reckless grievous bodily harm and affray over the alleged serious assault of a man at Hamilton in the early hours of Friday morning.
He did not apply for bail in Newcastle Local Court on Monday and it was refused. The matter was adjourned until Tuesday.
Police say they were called to Donald Street at Hamilton about 3.30am on Friday after reports of men fighting in the street.
When police arrived they were told the men had left.
But a short time later, police were called to a unit in Coady Street, Hamilton South, where they found the body of a 51-year-old man, and a 23-year-old man unconscious, suffering serious head injuries. Mr Onslow was also allegedly found inside the unit. Detectives are yet to charge anyone over the 51-year-old man's death.
