Dungog Shire Council will get $400,000 to spend on Gresford Road south of Lennoxton Road at Vacy and another $530,500 for Clarence Town Road south of the Union Bridge at Wirragulla.
Federal Nationals MP for Lyne David Gillespie announced the funds on Wednesday. They will be used to improve the shoulders, add signpost signs, enhance barriers and improve the road surface and markings.
Mr Gillespie acknowledged Dungog's traditional troubles with maintaining its roads.
“The Dungog Shire has a lot of local roads combined with a relatively small rate base," he said.
“The community’s input has been critical to identifying key black spots in our local area, and I’m delighted these two projects have been successful in securing funding.
“By specifically targeting road locations with a history of crashes for safety upgrades such as lighting, signage, traffic lights and roundabouts, the Black Spot Program reduces crashes causing injury and death at those sites by around 30 per cent.
The money comes from the Federal Road Black Spot Program, which will allocate a total of $744 million between 2013 and 2022.
