Hayne, who has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, was excused from attending a brief mention at Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
Prosecutor Hamish Fitzhardinge applied for a six-week adjournment to allow more time to review the police brief of evidence and confirm the charge.
Magistrate Andrew Eckhold agreed to push the case to May 15 and continued Hayne's bail.
Police allege Hayne had sex with a 26-year-old woman without her consent and knowing that she wasn't consenting in Newcastle in September 2018, and during the alleged rape inflicted actual bodily harm.
Hayne's barrister has indicated in court he intends to plead not guilty.
The aggravated rape charge carries a maximum 20-year jail term if Hayne is convicted.
