MORE than 1200 of the state's best young athletes were on show when the Hunter Academy of Sport hosted the Your Local Club Academy Games at the weekend.

The three-day event, which was held in the Hunter for a second year, brought athletes, staff, families and supporters from all 11 Regional Academies of Sport (RAS) in NSW to the region.
The Games included basketball, golf, hockey, netball, softball, triathlon, AFL and tennis. Para-sport matches were also held and featured wheelchair basketball and para-futsal athletes.
The Hunter Academy of Sport A-side took out the boys hockey tournament, defeating Western Region Academy 2-0 in the final.
Likewise, the Hunter Academy's boys softball side claimed bragging rights with three big victories to finish on top of the table.
In golf, the Hunter Academy's Jasmine Vesper claimed the girls gross result while Kaitlyn Van Zyl won the nett.
The Hunter Academy of Sport's Jemma Lucas was named in the division one netball merit team, while Meg Southcombe was named in the division two side.
Both hometown basketball sides were unlucky not make it further in their respective competitions.
The Hunter Academy girls side finished second in their pool after posting two wins and one loss, but lost by one point to Illawarra in their quarter final.
The boys side, which finished first in their pool with three straight victories, were knocked out 83-56 by Central Coast in the semi finals.
In the AFL, the Hunter Academy girls side finished seventh overall.
