A man has been charged after he allegedly stole a vehicle, got it bogged in bushland and hid from police in the roof cavity of a Coalfields home.

The man allegedly took the Honda all-terrain vehicle from a property on Sandy Creek Road, Mount Vincent in the early hours of Monday morning.
Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle being driven into bushland and becoming bogged at about 8am.
Police allege the 23-year-old driver threatened witnesses when they approached him, before he ran from the scene.

Hunter Valley Police District officers searched the area but could not find the man.
They later received a call to a home in Alpine Avenue, Cessnock, where the 23-year-old allegedly fled from a roof cavity.
Police chased the man on foot and arrested him.
He was charged with break, enter and steal, intimidation, trespassing, malicious damage and breach of bail.
He was refused bail and will face Maitland local court.
Police said they expect to lay more charges in relation to the incident.
