It's reassuring to know that your financial planner is not only expert and invested, but also accessible.

In the wake of the Royal Commission into Banking, many of the big financial institutions are in the process of transferring their financial planning businesses to new licensees. For many in the Hunter, this new licensee may not be local and the effect on the customers is that they will not know who is looking after their financial planning.

In most cases, bank clients looking for financial planning will now be directed to a central call centre of the new licensee, and will be allocated a planner to look after them. This planner may or may not be local and the long-term, one-on-one relationship so important to clients when entrusting their financial advice, may not be available.

Robards Wealth Management is a local, family business and has been practising in excess of 16 years.

"We develop a personal, long-term relationship with our clients," director and financial planner Andrew Robards said. "Our support staff are also very long-term local employees and our staff turnover is basically non-existent. Therefore, our clients have a well-established personal relationship with their planner and also get to know our staff. This gives them confidence that their own personal situation is important. Our business, up until now, has been built solely on the recommendations/referrals from our clients."

Robards Wealth Management provides financial planning advice. Their primary clients are working families, those moving into retirement and retirees. They also assist in navigating those life-changing events such as starting a family, divorce or loss of a family member.

They work with clients to ensure they are able to provide financial security by way of personal insurances, superannuation and retirement planning.

Robards Wealth Management is based at Fletcher, but has clients throughout the Hunter.

"Potential new clients generally phone our office as first contact," Andrew said. "One of our support staff will have a brief discussion to ascertain how we may be able to assist, and then arrange an appointment with myself or one of the three other financial planners within our practice. Our planners can be met in our office, or in a location that suits the client."
