If you're considering options for retirement living make sure you mark May 4 on your calendar.

A new model in seniors care, Cameron Glen Supported Living, has been completed and is having a grand opening day.

It's throwing open its doors and inviting people to come along to tour the new residential village at Cameron Park and find out about the lifestyle and options it can offer residents.

It's a unique concept for the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie area that combines the best features of both retirement village living and traditional aged care.

The aim at Cameron Glen is to provide independence and a great lifestyle for residents but with care and support available when it's needed.

Residents live in their own private self-contained villas with a choice of one, two or three bedroom units. They all feature state-of-the-art kitchens with stone benchtops and stainless steel appliances, one or two bathrooms and a sunny private courtyard.

Living the life: At Cameron Glen you can choose from one, two or three bedroom units.

Nursing staff are on site and on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Care staff are able to attend to residents in their own home and can provide assistance with showering, personal care and medication supervision

Cameron Glen is an Approved Aged Care provider, facilitating access to Government Funded Home Care packages for residents and will be able to provide for all high and low care requirements at no additional cost to the resident.

It means you won't have to move again because as your needs change the extra services you might require are available to you. Couples can stay together and never need to experience the anguish of separation as usually happens when one partner has to go to a nursing home.

There's plenty of choice around meals as well. You can cook up your own delicious meals in your own kitchen or you can eat in the dining room, open seven days a week to residents and their guests for lunch and dinner. Morning tea is complimentary - served at 10.30 am daily.

Social hub: The village Community Centre is where residents can come together.

The hub of village life is the community centre providing residents with a place to meet and get involved in a range of activities to keep you fit and entertained from exercise classes and bingo to craft sessions, movie nights and visiting entertainers.

A village bus makes it easy for residents to access major local shopping centres, and attend outings and appointments.

Pets aren't forgotten. Cameron Glen village is pet-friendly so residents can bring their "fur babies" along too.

Stage One is open now and is more than 60 per cent sold out, and deposits have been taken on 14 of the 19 villa units in Stage Three. Stage Two is in the planning phase with residences to be made available in the future.
