The City of Newcastle is opening its South Stockton "Active Hub" in Griffith Park on Friday.
"This is a great development for Stockton that will give youngsters and families the perfect option to enjoy on the northern side of the harbour," Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said on Wednesday.
"Set against a backdrop of the city skyline on a site perfect for Instagram, the facility will also help boost Stockton's profile as a place to visit."
The $2 million project was funded, in part, by a $450,000 grant from the state government's Newcastle Port Community Contribution Fund.
The council changed the original design of the hub to address concerns about noise. The facilities are further towards the foreshore and have been arranged in a more compact space.
The hub includes a flying fox, slides, climbing nets, swings, barbecue facilities, a sheltered picnic area and "street-style" skate ramps.
