Five NSW Ambulance crews and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter were called to Spoon Rock Road, just south of Caves Beach, at about 8.30am after reports that a man had been knocked off the rocks.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesperson said a paramedic was winched into the water to rescue the fisherman, a male believed to be aged in his 30s.
A Lake Macquarie City Council spokeswoman said one of the council's lifeguards arrived on scene on a jet ski to help with the rescue about the same time as other emergency services.
