A Newcastle woman has died after a single vehicle crash on the Gold Coast.

Queensland forensic police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident in the beachside suburb of Tugun in the early hours of Friday morning, which claimed the life of a 28-year-old from Wallsend.
In a statement, police said a Holden Commodore with NSW license plates was travelling north along the Pacific Highway at about 2.10am when it left the road and rolled several times.

The woman was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition, but later died from her injuries.
The driver, a 40-year-old man from Sydney, was arrested for unrelated matters, police said.
Investigators are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dash cam vision to contact police.
