Labor's Sharon Claydon will carry 118 years of history, a 13.8 per cent margin and top spot on the ballot paper into next month's federal vote in Newcastle.

Ms Claydon received No.1 in the ballot draw at the Australian Electoral Commission office in Charlestown on Wednesday.
The Greens' John Mackenzie will be second on the ballot, and Liberal challenger Katrina Wark drew the seventh and final spot.
The other candidates, in order, are Pam Wise (Christian Democrats), Geoffrey Scully (United Australia), BJ Futter (Great Australian Party) and Darren Brollo (Animal Justice).
Newcastle has had only six MPs in the 118 years since Federation, all of them Labor members.
The conservatives had better luck in the Paterson draw, where the Liberals' Sachin Joshi secured top spot, ahead of One Nation's Neil Turner and Labor incumbent Meryl Swanson.
Graham Burston (United Australia), Jan Davis (Greens) and Christopher Arthur Vale are also running.
One Nation's Stuart Bonds will head the ballot in the seat of Hunter, in front of the Nationals' Josh Angus.
Labor's Joel Fitzgibbon, who has a 12.5 per cent margin, drew seventh. The other runners are James Murphy (Animal Justice), Paul Davies (United Australia), Janet Murray (Greens), Richard Stretton (Christian Democrats) and Max Boddy (Socialist Equality).
Labor's Pat Conroy, who has a 9.9 per cent margin in Shortland, drew third, behind Susan Newbury (Sustainable Australia) and Xing Yu (Christian Democrats) and in front of Dani Rifai (United Australia), Wylie Campbell (Greens), Bryan McGrath (Animal Justice) and Nell McGill (Liberal) .
