The Blues (10 points) scored four unanswered goals in the second half to claim the victory and they now go clear on the overall standings following a 3-all draw between previously joint leaders Gosford (9) and Wests (6).
"It was a bit ugly in the first half at times, but the second half was a much better performance," Norths coach Dave Willott said.
Souths (7) remain in third spot.
Wests came from 3-1 down to level away against two-time defending premiers Gosford.
Maitland (4) beat University (0) 4-2.
In the sole Newcastle District Women's Hockey Association premier league match on Saturday, Regals equalised in the final quarter for a 2-all draw with Tigers.
